WORKPLACE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT PROGRAMS: EMPLOYEE WELLBEING IMPACT ON PRODUCTIVITY AND PERFORMANCE
Abstract
This research examines the impact of workplace mental health support programs on employee wellbeing, productivity, and organizational performance. Through analysis of recent datasets and literature from 2020-2023, this study demonstrates that strategic investment in mental health initiatives yields substantial returns through reduced absenteeism, decreased presenteeism, and improved employee engagement. The research reveals that comprehensive mental health programs generate a return on investment ranging from $1.9 to $6 for every dollar invested, with significant reductions in healthcare costs and productivity losses. Analysis of global workforce data shows that 12 billion working days are lost annually to depression and anxiety, costing the global economy approximately $1 trillion. The findings emphasize that effective mental health support programs are not merely employee benefits but strategic business imperatives that enhance organizational performance, reduce turnover costs, and create sustainable competitive advantages in the modern workplace.
